Darkball.net has a new home on a new server. This move led to bunch of other changes as well.
My old server had been running in Linode’s data center for around ten years, and some of its components, most notably the MySQL database, were long past their end-of-life dates. I’ve now rebuilt the entire setup on Hetzner Cloud. The new server has more RAM and CPU power, and surprisingly, it costs less than the old one.
As part of the move, I switched from MySQL to PostgreSQL and replaced Apache with Nginx. Unfortunately, WordPress does not support PostgreSQL, so I decided to move my website to use Grav CMS instead. The migration also gave me an opportunity to rethink a few things under the hood, and this time, I’d say I did them a bit more wisely.
I migrated most of my posts from the old WordPress installation to Grav, along with the comments. The original timestamps were preserved so that the historical data still reflects when the content was originally published.
